South Korea is getting rid of disciplinary cells.
Starting August 5, soldiers will be subject to confinement only if they have been convicted by a proper court-martial, rather than disciplinary proceedings. The current system is 124 years old, and has permitted military personnel to be placed in detention for up to 15 days.
