Russian soldiers refusing to "volunteer" for duty in Ukraine at risk of prosecution for desertion

L'Orient | Le Jour reports here that dozens of Russian Army career soldiers are at risk of prosecution for deserting because they fear being sent to separatist areas of eastern Ukraine. They left the Maïkop training camp in the south of Russia after it was suggested to them that they should "voluntarily" go to fight alongside pro-Russian separatists. Men in uniform without insignia promised them €127 per day if they went, according to a lawyer for some of the soldiers. The soldiers went home instead, writing letters of resignation that were not accepted.
