Reforms proposed for Alaskan military justice

Two Democratic state legislators are preparing a bill to update Alaska's 1955 code of military justice. Because of gaps in existing law, many offenses had to be handled administratively. The text is not yet available, but we will keep an eye on this. Reportedly, the legislators will continue to rely on the civilian criminal justice system for adjudication of rape and other serious civilian offenses. The state law applies only to the National Guard and Air National Guard when not in federal service.
