New joint corrections facility being built at Joint Base Lewis-McChord

Northwest Joint Regional
Correctional Facility
The government is spending $87.2 million on a new joint military confinement facility for the Pacific Northwest, according to this report in the Kitsap Sun. The current facility dates to 1957. Excerpt:
The Navy and Kitsap County attempted to strike an agreement for housing sailors while the detention facility was rebuilt, said Kitsap County Sheriff Gary Simpson. But Simpson said the county insisted on an indemnification that it requires of other entities that use the jail that the Navy wouldn't sign on to. And that was the dealbreaker.

"I couldn't put Kitsap County at legal risk," Simpson said.
