Ugandan general freed on bail pending court-martial

The Monitor reports here that a judge of the Uganda High Court at Kampala has released Gen. David Sejusa on bail pending his court-martial. The order was entered ex parte as no one appeared for the government.
Gen. Sejusa's bail before the High Court followed an order issued by Justice Margaret Oguli which suspended the trial of Gen. Sejusa until hearing of a petition seeking for declarations that he was discharged from the army was complete.
The UPDF maintains that Sejusa is subject to military law because he is still a serving army officer, a status he is challenging in the petition still pending in the High Court.
The court-martial has been suspended. Gen. Sejusa has been in a maximum security prison for the last two months.
