Sexual assault in the Canadian Forces has gained increased attention recently, in an eerie echo of developments in the United States. This article from the Hill Times indicates that an independent inquiry will follow after an internal review by the military, but that some already believe sex offenses should be handled by civilian police and courts. There is also concern over who would select the members of the independent inquiry. Sexual assault was made a military offense in 1998.
