Chief Justice Luis Gabriel Miranda |
El Espectador has
this report on an unusually messy case with a jurisdictional issue. It seems that the son of Chief Justice
Luis Gabriel Miranda of Colombia's Supreme Court was arrested after having been observed in his vehicle with his girlfriend. He became abusive when policemen approached him, and was roughed up and arrested. The police want the assault charges against them to be resolved by the military justice system since they were acting in the line of duty. Their attorney, retired colonel
Jorge Nelson Leon, is at the same time filing a complaint of judicial misconduct against the Chief Justice for using his judicial position to secure his son's release.
