The Brazilian Supreme Military Tribunal has increased to 12 years the prison sentences of two civilians who stole a rifle from a sentry in Recife, according to this report in O Dia. A third civilian was also prosecuted, for arranging to sell the stolen weapon for $10,000. Trial of civilians by military courts is strongly disfavored by contemporary human rights standards.
