Alphonse and Gaston in Armenia

Been following the case of the Russian soldier accused of murdering 7 Armenian citizens? Turns out the Russian Army is going to try him first on divers military offenses (desertion, theft of weapons and ammunition, carrying firearms), and only then turn him over to Armenia for trial on the murder charges. Query: why this sequence, and which sentence (assuming both trials lead to conviction) will the accused serve first -- and where?
