Notwithstanding the regular flow of cases against civilians through Egypt's military courts, there is a proposal in the country's House of Representatives to amend the constitution to permit the trial of civilians by military courts. Details (sort of) here. Perhaps the proposal would simply expand the category of civilian cases that can be tried in military courts (in light of the recent bombing of a Coptic church with massive loss of life), or perhaps the goal is to provide a firmer footing for what the authorities have already been doing. Stay tuned.
