Commanders own the military justice system and decide which
cases go to trial. Judge advocates must understand that in these sensitive days
of military justice, the system only truly works when we are prepared to
honestly advise commanders to take the founded but difficult cases to trial,
and dispose of unfounded allegations without regard to the political optics.
