An American naval officer held for a prolonged period by Belgium on suspicion of having murdered his wife has succeeded in persuading the United States military justice system to assume jurisdiction under the NATO Status of Forces Agreement. It's
a tangled tale, including a federal district court petition for a writ of mandamus that seems to have had the desired effect.
