Executions stayed in Pakistan

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has issued a stay of execution in three cases from the country's military courts. The two-judge bench indicated that the military court needed to give a reason for its judgment. Details here.

The 21st Amendment to the Constitution of Pakistan, which permits military trials of civilians and was rammed through the legislature a year ago, is currently due to expire in under a year.

  1. FYI, news accounts out of Pakistan vary inexplicably about the number of defendants in the cases.
