Tomorrow: Coast Guard Day

On August 4, 1790, Congress authorized the system of cutters that became the Revenue Marine, Revenue-Cutter Service, and eventually (in 1915), U.S. Coast Guard. Alexander Hamilton, who was the first Secretary of the Treasury and is now famous on Broadway, is regarded as the father of the Coast Guard. The Coast Guard is an armed service at all times and its uniformed personnel are subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
