Unionization

National policies differ widely with respect to the ability of military personnel to organize. In the United States, for example, military labor organizing is a federal crime. In Ireland a controversy is currently brewing because the country has failed to comply with the decision of the European Committee of Social Rights in European Organisation of Military Associations (EUROMIL) v. Ireland, Complaint No. 112/2014 (ESRC published Feb. 12, 2018). At issue in a just-filed High Court case is whether the Irish association may affiliate with the national trade union's organization. Details here from the Irish Examiner.
