Down memory lane

For a fascinating glimpse of Coast Guard military justice during the 1920s "rum war," consider this article by Thomas Farner. Secret trials and all, with the bribees' eventually led off to the Naval Prison at Portsmouth, NH.

From the contemporary news accounts, it seems that one member of the panel was also a witness to one of the accused's confession.

At the time, the Coast Guard was part of the Treasury Department.
