Most strangely, the
National Post reports that the Canadian military has ordered the publication of 120,000 wallet-sized cards to be issued to all Regular and Reserve personnel to remind them that sexual assault, sexual interference, sexual exploitation, voyeurism, indecent acts are "
inappropriate behaviors".
The cards are to be carried by military personnel while on the job including operational deployment abroad. This is one of the most visible action taken to date in response to the damming report on sexual misconduct in the Canadian Armed Forces published by retired Madam Justice
Marie Deschamps of the Supreme Court of Canada.
The fact that the vast majority of the behaviours listed on the wallet cards are "criminal in nature" has obviously escaped notice.
Ironically, these cards would also be issued to past and, potentially, future victims of sexual misconduct in the Canadian Armed Forces. Now forced to carry such a card in their wallet, these victims - the majority of whom do not report such crimes - know only too well that such admonishment is not very likely to curb the criminal urges of their aggressors.
