Members of Congress weigh in on LtCol Scheller's pretrial confinement

A number of Members of Congress, led by Rep. Louie B. Gohmert, Jr. (R-TX), have sent a letter to the Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps and his Staff Judge Advocate urging the release of LtCol Stuart Scheller from pretrial confinement. The letter can be found here.

Readers may wish to consider Max Jesse Goldberg's recent Yale Law Journal Note on Congressional Influence on Military Justice. He writes:

Congressmembers have often meddled with the administration of military justice in ways they would never do with respect to proceedings in civilian federal courts. This congressional interference undermines the system’s integrity and, while individual instances have garnered some media attention, the underlying systemic problems have been ignored.
