The Wisconsin Department of Justice completed its review of
33 sexual assault cases from 2009-2019, stemming from the Wisconsin National Guard's botched handling of the initial investigation. A scathing
report from the National Guard Bureau had found deficiencies, among other things, with how the Wisconsin National Guard investigated sexual assault and harassments complaints. The Wisconsin Department of Justice did not have the power to prosecute any of the cases, so after their investigation, the cases were referred to local district attorneys, who
declined to prosecute.
