Want to know what it means to have a noncompliant system?

The Supreme Court of Pakistan handed down a fascinating decision in Bashir v. Federation of Pakistan on May 6, 2021. The accused, a junior officer, was charged with homicide and fornication, and convicted only of fornication. The convening authority in this old-style field general court-martial system sent the case back for reconsideration of the evidence, whereupon the accused was convicted of both charges. The accused's original sentence of three years and six months confinement, a fine, and dismissal wound up as a life sentence.

Dawn has this account of the case.
