Director of Service Prosecutions defends the Service Justice System

Andrew Cayley CMG QC, the Director of Service Prosecutions was interviewed on BBC Radio 4's Law In Action program by Joshua Rozenberg QC (Hon) about the Lyons Report and the challenge to the MoD's response to the report.

Mr Cayley praised his prosecutors and refuted the claims advanced by Emma Norton of the Centre for Military Justice. He also commented on the on going saga of investigations into accustations that British troops committed war crimes in Iraq, revealing that only one case remained under investigation. Investigators had dismissed almost all other allegations due to a lack of credible evidence or because the offending was "low level". Mr Cayley is confident that no action would be taken following the separate International Criminal Court investigation into alleged abuses by British troops.

Further detail can be found on the BBC News Website and the episode of Law in Action can be found here. For those who don't want to listen to the whole episode Brig. Paphiti, esteemed contributor to this blog, has posted the extract to ASPALS. You can find it here.
