In Australia, victims of sexual abuse in the armed forces may sue for compensation.
The Australian reports:
Defence Force sexual abuse victims who sued for compensation received average payouts more than three times the maximum offered by the government’s national redress scheme.
Department of Defence data produced in Senate estimates have revealed abuse victims who sued for compensation received a median payment of $460,000, according to the figures that tracked 33 cases.
The proposed national redress scheme, which avoids a court-settled outcome and prevents future litigation, will set a cap on payments of $150,000 with an expected average payment of $76,000.
