Victims appeal, obtain reopened investigation

Público TV reports here on an interesting case from Spain. Five soldiers died and three were injured in a 2011 training accident involving mines. The matter was closed after an investigation. Now a military court has ordered the investigation reopened based on an appeal by two of the victims, each of whom is now retired.

This case is a useful reminder that investigations remain a key part of the administration of justice in armed forces. The Editor is having trouble thinking of a comparable case in the United States where a victim has been able to sue to force additional investigation in a case that has been closed. Do any come to mind?
