Rape issues in South Sudan

Two problems emerge from this report from South Sudan: soldiers' impunity in rape cases and blatant unlawful command influence:
In February 2017, President Salva Kiir ordered the country's defense minister and his army chief of staff to execute soldiers who commit murder or rape against civilians in Yei River State.

The bishop said military authorities are shielding such soldiers from facing justice.

"When the case goes up (to military authorities), this is where it also dies. So it encourages the soldiers to do what they want to do because they will not be held accountable," [Anglican Bishop Paul] Yugusuk said.
