The Nigerian Army has demoted a senior officer

reports:
The senior officer, Enitan Ransome-Kuti, was arrested in January 2015 and tried by a special court martial for cowardice, while serving as Commander of a Joint Multinational Task Force in Baga of the restive northeast Borno State
[T]he Army Council confirmed the decision of the court martial, but decided to review the punishment.  [T]he council commuted the officer’s dismissal from the Nigerian Army to demotion from the rank of a Brigadier General to the rank of Colonel.
(As an aside, U.S. officers cannot be demoted at court-martial.  There was a time when naval officers could be sentenced to a "loss of numbers" which placed them lower on the lineal list of officers and therefore lower on the list for promotion.)
