Government argues today in Pakistan military courts case

The government will present argument today in the Supreme Court of Pakistan case concerning the 18th and 21st Amendments to the Constitution, according to this report. Yesterday the Attorney General told the court that it could not invalidate a constitutional amendment. Among other things,

"referring to military courts, the attorney general said that people who are a part of the army under the Army Act and those who are linked to the army or people who fall under Defence of Pakistan [Act] could not approach ordinary courts.

"To which, the CJ asked whether a civilian could be tried in a military court or not. [Salman] Butt said that if an enemy is apprehended his trial would be conducted in a military court and if a civilian talks about breaking the country he too would be tried in the military court."
