The intersection between technology and discipline continues to challenge military leadership. The latest is an announcement, reported here, that personnel of the Moroccan armed forces and gendarmerie -- regardless of rank -- may no longer log into social media such as Facebook and Twitter, on pain of punishment. Excerpt:
The step was taken following discovery of several personal pages of gendarmerie and military officers, including Facebook, saluting the efforts of the two armed services.
In other pages, account holders seek improved working conditions for Moroccan gendarmes and soldiers, especially those serving in remote areas of the country.
Some demand higher wages, while another category published photos of a military nature, according to the daily Al Massae.
