Turkish court acquits military officers in coup plot case

Earlier this week, a Turkish court acquitted the last 62 military officers jailed over an alleged plot to overthrow then-prime minister Tayyip Erdogan (Erdogan is now president). The conspiracy dates to 2003, when Erdogan came to power. The alleged plot included plans to bomb mosques and catalyze a confrontation with Greece, paving the way for a military takeover. In 2012, a court sentenced the military officers to jail. However, an Istanbul court acquitted the military officers this week, citing major inconsistencies in the digital evidence. The acquittal comes on the heels of last week's acquittal of another 236 officers in connection with the alleged plot.
