The case of the novelist-lieutenant

Lt. Luis Gonzalo Segura
The case of novel-writing Lieutenant Luis Gonzalo Segura continues to attract attention in Spain. Example include this essay by Miguel González in El País and this interview with El Diario Militar, in which Lt. Segura argues that "Spain cannot afford to ignore the urgent need to reform its armed forces." Even if you rely on computer-based translation, these articles are worth reading. His case, which goes to trial on Friday, June 13, tests the limits of free expression by military personnel. If he is punished, watch for proceedings in the European Court of Human Rights.
