The United States turns out to have no monopoly on general officer courts-martial. Chinese military prosecutors have
charged Lieutenant General
Gu Junshan with bribery, embezzlement, misuse of state funds and abuse of power. According to the
South China Morning Post, "[h]e is the highest-ranking officer to stand trial on such charges since Vice-Admiral
Wang Shouye in 2006, who received a suspended death sentence for embezzlement." The
unfolding case could shine a light on the administration of justice in the People's Liberation Army.
