Old military courthouses never die

2018 Amendments to Manual for Courts-Martial, United States, now available in full

The Office of the Federal Register now has available here the full text of the 2018 Amendments to the Manual for Courts-Martial, Exec. Order No. 13,825 (Mar. 1, 2018). This includes Annexes 1 and 2. It will be in tomorrow's Federal Register.

Here we go again

Work has begun on a third edition of Military Justice Cases and Materials. Like the earlier editions of this multi-author law school textbook, this one will be heavy on American materials but will also present a wealth of international and comparative materials to permit a deep dive into the subject.

What would you include? What would you jettison? Please send your thoughts to the Editor. Thanks!

If you were in charge . . .

. . . What would you change in the Draft Principles Governing the Administration of Justice Through Military Tribunals, E/CN.4/2006/58 (13 January 2006) (a/k/a The Decaux Principles)? A workshop will be held at Yale Law School on this question on 23-24 March and the window is still open for suggestions, which can be sent to the Editor or posted as comments on this blog. If you do post a comment, state your name -- nothing anonymous and no pseudonyms. Serving personnel and other government officials are welcome to note any necessary disclaimers. Please be specific and include suggested language whenever possible.

Different spanks

There are, indeed, different spanks for different ranks. But there are also different considerations.

From this Defense One post by James Joyner and Butch Bracknell. See if you agree.
