New ways to crack down on deserters in the IDF

The IDF has a persistent level of desertion, about 3000, and is working on ways to keep the number down. The authorities send text messages telling deserters to turn themselves in. Now consideration is being given to seeking legislation that would deny deserters a variety of privileges, including withholding ID cards, passports, driver's licenses, housing benefits and scholarships.
