Jurisdictional issue looms over Colombian case

Supreme Court President
Luis Gabriel Miranda Buelvas
A magistrate has decided to take testimony from the president of the Colombian Supreme Court in a case involving that jurist's son. Luis Gabriel Miranda Buelvas has claimed that his son was the victim of abuse by police officers. The police officers in turn claim that their actions were taken in the line of duty and therefore any allegations against them should be tried in the military courts rather than the civilian courts. The decision on which is the proper forum will be made  by the Disciplinary Chamber of the Superior Council of Judicature. Details on the latest round in this jurisdictional skirmish appear in this article.
