Senators Murkowski and Begich's proposals might get legs

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner has run an editorial on the National Guard reform proposals offered by Alaska's Senators Lisa Murkowski and Mark Begich, observing in part:
Ideally, these reforms wouldn’t be necessary, and failing that, it would be best if reforms could have been made earlier on a state level rather than a federal one — we like to think of Alaska as a place where we can police our own messes. But given the significance of the problems in our Guard, and the time spent without effective action taken at a state level, we shouldn’t be surprised at efforts to make change on the federal level. There may be units in states other than ours that would benefit from those changes too.
